HPC Cluster Administrator

Instrumental is seeking a highly motivated individual interested in joining an enthusiastic team to provide all encompassing HPC and infrastructure system support services to the NOAA R&D HPCS program site in Princeton, NJ.

The position of HPC system administrator will be primarily to support the GFDL post-processing system. Other systems that will require support are the home file system appliance, archive storage system, job scheduler and other infrastructure systems. GFDL is a 24x7 site that may require after hours and weekend support.

Responsibilities

  • Primarily maintaining the post-production system
  • Installing and maintaining software on systems and user requested software
  • Managing patching of systems for site and NOAA security requirements (may have to coordinate with several sites)
  • System hardware support, diagnostics and repair
  • Monitoring components and reporting system downtime
  • Providing direct support to end customer and users
  • End-to-end data transfer support (post-processing to tape archive system)
  • Job scheduler operations and maintenance
  • Work with multiple vendors for support and services
  • After-hours for 24x7 support of site, schedule to be worked out with onsite personnel
  • Capacity planning of systems for future upgrades of systems
  • User and system documentation as necessary

Required Skills

  • Linux system administration experience (RHEL, CentOS and SLES)
  • Understanding of networking including network performance
  • Storage configuration and performance tuning
  • Ability to work directly with customers and users of systems
  • Programming languages including C/Fortran
  • Scripting languages such as Bash, Perl, etc.
  • Ability to learn and implement new skills as required by the position

Desired Skills

  • Knowledge of Dell hardware and software
  • BlueArc experience or other NAS experience
  • Nagios or other monitoring package experience
  • xCAT cluster administration
  • Puppet configuration management
  • Moab scheduler or other scheduler experience
  • Large scale storage experience (XFS, CXFS and DMF)
  • Globus Toolkit (GridFTP) experience

Qualified applicants may be subject to a security investigation and must meet minimum eligibility requirements for a National Agency Check (NAC). U.S. Citizenship is required.
