Operational Strategy and Planning
Today's IT operational organizations are often engineered to support a data center environment, containing numerous vertically oriented vendor specific teams located at one or more sites. As well as the rationalization of this segmented approach, there are many additional challenges to face in creating a successful service function that will:
- Focus on an effective operation and management plan for the client/server environment
- Deliver quality services to the multi-location data center, enterprise environment
- Reduce human error in problem, change and service management
Operational Strategy and Planning is a service capability that is applicable to clients deploying high-end enterprise solutions, the platforms they use, or their locations. The service designs an automated operations environment tailored with the optimum hardware, software and organizational and operational platforms.
The service identifies and analyzes areas where automation can offer the operations organization significant improvements in the service, financial and operational performance. It does not just consider tools but re-engineers the overall operational processes, which are key to effective distributed management.
Instrumental will:

- Provide an analysis of the situation against Industry 'Best in Class'
- Create the future process design and prioritize the key activities and all new actions identified
- Provide an operational architecture to support the business needs and organizational design

Operational Strategy and Planning is a four-stage approach:
- Feasibility study
- Functional design
- Technical design
- Implementation
A client may choose to buy the complete service including the implementation, or only part, e.g., only up to the delivery of Functional Specifications. Each stage is scoped, priced, reviewed, agreed upon and delivered separately. After each stage, the client has the option to continue.
